This is a 8 week course in Mindfulness Meditation to relieve pain, reduce stress and enhance wellness. Mindfulness is a meditative process that quiets the mind and releases physical distress. Through mindfulness you can experience greater vitality and well-being in the present moment.
 
Participants are asked to make a strong commitment to attend all sessions and to practice meditation/relaxation techniques on a daily basis throughout the eight-week program. There will be an additional full day class on a Saturday, date TBA.
 
Limited financial assistance is available, and payment arrangements can be discussed on an individual basis. (Discounts available for Jefferson and Main Line Health employees.)

Come get cozy at our Restorative Yoga Pajama Party! Feel warm and fully relaxed in your favorite jammies and snuggly socks as you practice your restorative yoga with Barbara Richardson. Restorative Yoga is a sequence of yoga postures designed to create gentle openings in the body. The postures are fully supported by props such as blankets, blocks, and bolsters to allow each practitioner to achieve deep relaxation. Restorative Yoga is suitable for all ages and levels of fitness and can be used for therapeutic means to aid conditions such as lower back pain, headaches, insomnia, and exhaustion.

It's time to give yoga a try and share in the benefits! We've created the perfect way to get started with our monthly Yoga 101 Workshop Series. It is specially designed for people brand new to yoga but it's also great for novices who want to review the basics. Yoga is appropriate for just about anyone. You don't need to be flexible to start, you simply need the desire to show up and do your best. In this 4 week (8 Class) workshop series, we will explore the key elements that make up the practice of Hatha yoga, including:

  • Yoga's Basic Postures with Proper Alignment
  • The Role & Importance of Breath in the Practice of Yoga
  • Techniques for Enhancing a Sense of Moving Meditation for Focus & Relaxation

At the conclusion of the workshop, students will be prepared for all the Level I/II classes on our schedule. This series offers an easy and comfortable way for newcomers to begin their own practice.

We now offer a hybrid series that includes Sundays to help accommodate your busy schedules. The 8 sessions of this Yoga 101 Series are divided into four Sunday classes and then your choice of four classes from any of the other Yoga 101 series during the week.

Special guest teacher Joy Karley will be at Twisters Wellness Center teaching a Balance Body Barre Teacher Training which will cover Barre-based movement principals, class formats, and music playlists to help you learn and sculpt successful 60 minute Barre classes. The course focuses on proper alignment, safety, variations, and modifications for you to teach a variety of class levels.

Invert Yourself and Fly! This invigorating workshop will include a Vinyasa practice to warm the body before delving into a variety of arm balances and inversions. We will break the poses down and help everyone find their flight!

 

All levels are welcome as we explore the thrills and benefits of being upside down. Strength, balance, and core work will all be incorporated as we practice engaging Bandhas to find lightness in our arm-balances. See you on the flip side!

Erdenheim: 8 Part Series Starts Jan. 14th

Mindful yoga is movement with attention to develop a present centered awareness. We will practice bringing awareness to sensation of the body, feelings and thoughts that arise during this slower, more deliberate practice. If your present yoga practice feels like a work-out, then this practice will feel more like a “work-in.” We will practice asana, pranayama (breathwork) and meditation.
 
This workshop is for people who want to learn mediation while moving more slowly and with intention. We will explore yoga philosophy while practicing. The themes/intentions are: mindful awareness, setting up your foundation, finding your edge, turning toward difficult moments, joy and letting go. You will learn how to take your practice from your mat to your life. This class is also suitable for those who want to explore a beginning practice of body awareness while stretching.
 
Mindful yoga helps to reduce stress and cultivate wellness while in practice on and off the mat.
 
We will have a longer savansa/meditation at the end of class, and also (an optional) 15 minutes to discuss/ask questions about practice.
 
Shirley Kessel
Shirley has worked in healthcare for over twenty-five years and has learned that health and wellness stem from tuning into and trusting your inner wisdom. Her center of attention is on teaching people about the no-diet/self-care lifestyle, however her training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), has taught her the concepts for reducing stress and enhancing wellness. She was trained by the Mindfulness Institute at Thomas Jefferson Hospital and has studied with Jon Kabat-Zinn.
 
As a practitioner of yoga for over fifteen years, she is a Yoga Therapist who has completed a yoga teacher training called, “Reconnect with Food”®, a systematic, life-transforming, yoga-based eating disorder treatment program. This program has helped her how to teach others about the relationship between yoga and daily life struggles, and how mindful yoga can enhance clarity, relaxation while reducing worry and stress.
