Recipe:
In preparation for the cornucopia of Thankgsviving deliciousness, begin with basting your own drumsticks.
 
Ingredients:
2 Legs (thigh portions with skin on),
1 Tbsp. (heaping) of determination,
1 Cup of blood, sweat & tears (equal parts),
1 Tsp. of courage (grade A)
a “pinch” of fat (trimmed before serving),
and a “dash” of adrenalin
 
Preparation & Bake Time:
Mix all ingredients together; stirring constantly on high heat until you reach a rapid boiling point. Simmer for an hour & a half. Repeat (1 week later to ensure all fat has been trimmed).
 
Serve: Smoking hot under a Thanksgiving table.
 
Garnish: With high heels.

Many people go to yoga to momentarily step away from their fast-paced life but end up speeding their way to the studio and through their practice. In this four session workshop series, we will slow everything down. In yin yoga, various floor postures are held for 3-5 minutes to appropriately lengthen the body's connective tissue while relaxing the muscles. The principals and benefits of yin yoga will be discussed as we practice it, and students will leave feeling grounded and refreshed. Space is limited, so early registration is highly recommended. Spots will only be reserved when registration and payment are received.

Date: Sunday, November 2nd & 9th, and December 7th & 14th

Erdenheim: 8 Part Series Starts Jan. 14th

Mindful yoga is movement with attention to develop a present centered awareness. We will practice bringing awareness to sensation of the body, feelings and thoughts that arise during this slower, more deliberate practice. If your present yoga practice feels like a work-out, then this practice will feel more like a “work-in.” We will practice asana, pranayama (breath work) and meditation. We will have a longer savasana/meditation at the end of class, and also (an optional) 10 minutes after class to ask questions about practice. Learn how to take your practice from your mat to your life.
 
Shirley Kessel
Shirley has worked in healthcare for over twenty-five years and has learned that health and wellness stem from tuning into and trusting your inner wisdom. Her center of attention is on teaching people about the no-diet/self-care lifestyle, however her training in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), has taught her the concepts for reducing stress and enhancing wellness. She was trained by the Mindfulness Institute at Thomas Jefferson Hospital and has studied with Jon Kabat-Zinn.
As a practitioner of yoga for over fifteen years, she is a Yoga Therapist who has completed a yoga teacher training called, “Reconnect with Food”®, a systematic, life-transforming, yoga-based eating disorder treatment program. This program has helped her how to teach others about the relationship between yoga and daily life struggles, and how mindful yoga can enhance clarity, relaxation while reducing worry and stress.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction - 8 Week Series

Ambler Center: Starts Jan. 25th
 
This is a 8 week course in Mindfulness Meditation to relieve pain, reduce stress and enhance wellness. Mindfulness is a meditative process that quiets the mind and releases physical distress. Through mindfulness you can experience greater vitality and well-being in the present moment.
 
Participants are asked to make a strong commitment to attend all sessions and to practice meditation/relaxation techniques on a daily basis throughout the eight-week program. There will be an additional full day class on a Saturday, date TBA.
 
Limited financial assistance is available, and payment arrangements can be discussed on an individual basis. (Discounts available for Jefferson and Main Line Health employees.)
